An art exhibit curated by Monique Stubbs

Memories travel with us like clouds—shaped by our ancestors, molded by our experiences, and carried through life’s journey. Some memories anchor us, while others propel us toward the fulfillment of our dreams. This exhibition, Memories of Dreams, Fulfilled, is a tribute to the power of collective memory and its ability to inspire, challenge, and transform us.

As a native of Nassau, Bahamas, and a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, my love for fine art was nurtured from childhood by my parents. This exhibition is a deeply personal endeavor—one that seeks to introduce fine art to downtown Gastonia while showcasing the rich diversity of artistic expression. Here, visitors will encounter a range of works, from traditional paintings to sculptural art, culminating in the thought-provoking pieces of internationally renowned artist Juan Logan.

Through this collection, I invite you to reflect on your own dreams. Consider the ways in which the memories—both inherited and lived—have influenced your path. My hope is that you leave this space feeling inspired and encouraged, knowing that despite life’s twists and turns, dreams can indeed be fulfilled.

Juan Logan

I am using a divining rod not for water, but for a sense of belonging, direction, and homecoming. The idea that the rod vibrates with increasing intensity as one nears home suggests an almost mystical connection to place, memory, and intuition. It is as if home isn’t just a physical space but something that calls to you on a deeper, unseen frequency.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Juan Logan now lives and works in Belmont, North Carolina.

Logan received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Juan Logan's artworks address subjects relevant to the American experience. At once abstract and representational, his paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and videos address the interconnections of race, place, power and the often fragmented nature of our collective memories. They make visible how hierarchical relations and social stereotypes shape individuals, institutions, and the material and mental landscapes of contemporary life.

Logan has shown extensively nationally and internationally, and his artworks can be found in private, corporate, and public collections, including the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the Zimmerli Museum of Art, the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, the Mint Museum of Art, the Chazen Museum of Art, and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. Most recently, his piece "Some Clouds are Darker" became part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture.
